Geology, green nature and the Alpine man!

Jezersko is a true geological delicacy.

Jezersko part of the Karavanke reveals the oldest rocks, which can be found on the Slovenian territory dated 395 million years ago. At the foot of Karavanke there are the youngest rocks: Jezersko travertine, created in the present. In Karavanke in Jezersko there is also a mineral water spring, a source rich in magnesium, which is recommended for heart diseases, vascular and metabolic diseases.

Grintovci or Kamnisko-Savinjske Alps, in addition to the Julian Alps (highest peak Mount Triglav 2863), are the only Slovenian Alps where the highest top ends with the tip of Grintovec (2558 m). They show you limestone-dolomite rocks of younger age. You will be breathtaken by the majestic beauty of limestone and dolomite with their vertical walls, fairytale like cirques and powerful amphitheatric Kochnas. Your climbing effort, however, is paid with a beautiful view.

Last stamp of the nature of the Jezersko valley was made by glaciations; the most recent was Würm glaciation. The residues of glaciers - moraines, Virnikov kogel, can be seen today. The great legacy of the ice periods are Virnikov Kogel and scraps of moraines by the settlement Jezersko-Ravne. You will also see a number of powerful blocks under kochnas. From glaciation or from retreating of the glacier the lake was created, after which the village got its name-Jezersko.

In addition to beautiful nature, the beauty of Jezersko valley was contributed to also by the mountain man, pristavas and farm homes that you can admire on wandering through the valley. Most of the Jezersko farms are, with their interiors and exteriors of the homes and commercial buildings as well, one of the kind in Slovenia. Unique are also the people who live in them and have, over the centuries, kept the tradition of their ancestors and the Slovene culture.

Conserving values of the home-building tradition is certainly one of those solid assurances that they will protect this landscape from any alteration of the landscape and the people in it. *
